It’s Been a Crazy Couple of Months
Where to begin… Near the beginning of May, on May the Fourth to be exact, I had a really bad and really weird fall. I was in my chair at my computer, playing Starfield and starting to get a little sleepy. I hadn’t slept in about 36 hours at the time. I saved my game and… that’s the last thing I remember until opening my eyes to find I was still in my chair playing Starfield, BUT 40 minutes had passed, and I had blood on my face and leg the latter of which was hurting really bad. As you can imagine, I was very confused. I went downstairs and before I could say anything, my Mom gave me a weird look and asked why there was blood on my face. I didn’t know. She also told me that I, during that missing 40 minutes, brought my dad’s broken electric blanket downstairs then dropped it in the middle of the floor. Mom asked what I was doing but I mumbled something then took the wires from the blanket and went back upstairs. This made sense because when I “woke up” after those 40 minutes, the wires from that electric blanket were next to me. So, apparently, I was sleepwalking which is something I’ve never done before in my life. She also said she heard a loud thud from upstairs before I came down. After looking behind my computer chair to see a couple smashed boxes and blood splatter, I realized I had fell out of my chair and that explained most of my injuries. I didn’t injure my face, so I still don’t know why I had blood there. The next day I had a huge collection of bruises on both my legs, especially my right leg and foot, plus my right foot was in so much pain that it hurt to take a single step let alone walk. I theorize that in my sleepy haze, I took my nighttime medications twice. (It just so happens that I take all of my strongest medications at night.) So, I may have overdosed on my medications plus the sleep deprivation must have led to this really odd episode. That’s all I can figure.
Oh yeah, did I mention that right before my fall, during the last few weeks of April, I had a nasty respiratory infection that was most likely pneumonia? I had just gotten over that illness when I fell. About a week or two after my fall, I got sick again. May was NOT a good month for me.
As I have mentioned before in this blog, my dad has dementia. Well, the dementia has now progressed into the “agitation and anger” phase. My mom needed a break and wanted to visit my aunt and cousins over in Kansas City (about a 6- or 7-hour drive). She left on the 29th of May. He was difficult for the first few days, but the shit truly hit the fan that Saturday (June 1st). He started yelling and screaming, slamming doors and cabinets, etc. I was terrified and so were both of our dogs. Pixie, my dad’s dog, was hiding under my bed and refused to come out. I kept calling Mom for help but then she, and my friends on Facebook, told me to go ahead and call 911 before anyone got hurt. By the time the police and ambulance got here, he had calmed down. He refused to go to the hospital no matter what any of us said to him. The EMT told me the only other option was to sedate him and have the police officer cuff him then force him into the hospital. I couldn’t bring myself to do that. Mom told me she would come home the next day as it was too late at night to start driving then. She called me Sunday morning to see if I still needed her to rush home and, well, he was it again. I should have called 911 again like they told me to but for some reason I didn’t. Mom got home that evening. Then, on Monday, my mom’s mother went into emergency surgery for her pacemaker (battery died). Mom rushed down to Carbondale Hospital to be at her side. About an hour after she left, Dad went off the deep end again. I couldn’t get through to Mom’s cellphone, so I called the hospital and told them to get a message to her that I needed her to come home IMMEDIATELY. She did and Dad calmed down. Mom was not happy though. Things have been mostly calm since then. I hope it stays that way.
Ever since that weird fall episode, I noticed that my right foot (specifically my heel) was hurting every time I took a step. So, I went to the pediatrist and after looking at the x-rays of my foot he found a bone spur that is ever so slowly cutting into my Achillies tendon. Surgery is needed before I lose control of my foot. It’s next week and I’m apprehensive as hell about it. I won’t be able to walk for nearly four weeks and won’t be able to drive for six weeks. I have to have it done though.
Also, since that weird fall, my lower back has been hurting like hell. The more I bend or walk around, the worse it hurts and it’s getting worse by the day. So, I went to my doctor, and she ordered x-rays of my lower back. I haven’t heard anything back yet because apparently the radiologist is currently working through a backlog and all x-ray reports are taking several more days than they should. Great. Whatever is wrong, I just hope it won’t require surgery like my foot does.
On the bright side, I am back to work on my art projects! Since I’ll be off my feet for the next several weeks, I’ll have plenty of computer time to work on both my art projects and Sims 4 mods. For now, I’m going to get back to work on those art projects. Until next time! Thank you for viewing.
